Project Parore has network of bait stations and traps around the Uretara estuary and harbour margins on reserve land, including Park Road and Tamawhariua Reserve at the end of Beach Road. A programme for the seasonal use of baits and checking of traps is overseen by very experienced pest control volunteers, including Barry Pethybridge, who has many years of practical predator management under his belt. An enthusiastic group of volunteers take ownership of specific areas or bait/trap lines – we’re always keen to hear from anyone who would like to adopt an area.
We are supported as a Care Group by the BOP Regional Council who fund consumables like bait and new traps as budget allows. The Western BOP District Council assist us with signage to inform and earn the public.
Monitoring using tracking tunnels and chew cards is also carried out to inform our work.
