The southern boundary of Project Parore’s rohe is the Aongatete catchment, but only the area of that catchment to the north of the Aongatete river, capturing the Kauritatahi and Poupou tributaries. The northern tidal flow in Tauranga harbour reaches to the Matahui peninsula at the foot of the Aongatete catchment, which is why this was chosen as the boundary. The challenges here are the same as catchments to the north: improving riparian protection and biodiversity enhancement with a focus on land use practices to improve soil health and minimise erosion.
